The cultural promoter announced that Mexico was the guest of honor, in the fifth thematic edition of the lille 3000 Eldorado Festival, in northern France, where the cultural and artistic wealth of our country is manifested through these works that can be seen, near the entity’s railway station.
“It is a very important site because it connects with Belgium, England and Luxembourg, it is what we call the railway region,” said Greco, adding “it is likely that these alebrijes will go to Paris. These sculptures invade the avenue and the cities of Europe It caught their attention, so it is likely that these alebirjes moved to La Villette, which is something similar to the Los Pinos Cultural Center.”
Romain said that these crafts were not well known in Europe and impact those who see them for their colors and shapes, also “they were made based on handmade papier-mâché models but since these alebrijes are outdoors, we made them out of fiberglass so that they could be disassembled and fit into the containers. Its construction took two months,” he reported.
He expressed that these creations at night are illuminated inside and paraded on April 27 through the streets of the city of Lille during the traditional opening parade of the lille3000 Eldorado Festival, along with other large emblematic figures of La Catrina. , Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, as well as floats, dancers, skulls, devils, mariachis and chinelos.
Likewise, the producer also announced that the alebrijes were made specifically for display at the French event by artisans from the Museo de Arte Popular (MAP) and the workshops of El Volador in Mexico City, in collaboration with the organizers of The Golden.
It is worth mentioning that Wolf, Dog Lizard, Diablito, Lenguard, Seahorse, Toad, Cat, Jaguar and Squirrel are some of the names of the giant alebrijes.
On the other hand, one of the activities that are within the framework of this cultural event in Lille is the Dulce Pinzón exhibition, made up of works by the artist from Puebla of the same name, whose work oscillates between documentary photography and constructed photography.
This exhibition opened in September at the La Corderie media library and will close its doors on November 2, when the Calaveras exhibition will also conclude, which has been housed at the Saint Sauveur station since September 19 and is made up of the Mexicraneos, pieces that pay homage to to one of the Day of the Dead traditions. Finally, Romain Greco explained that the investment for this edition of Lille3000 reached 9 million euros (just over 193 million Mexican pesos), provided by the French city, the Euroregion and the French Ministry of Culture.
