One of the first projects is the comedy “Tully,” written by Diablo Cody (“Juno”) and directed by Jason Reitman . In it, Charlize, who gained thirty pounds to take on this role , plays a mother of three children, one of them a newborn, who is overwhelmed by her brother’s offer to hire a night nanny to help her.

The actress knows motherhood; in 2012 she adopted her first son, Jackson, and in 2015 her daughter, August, of African-American origin. Charlize  began her career by dancing and modeling, and in 1997 she landed her first major movie role with “The Devil’s Advocate.” She was followed by “North Country”, “The Road” and, in 2004, she won an Oscar and a Golden Globe in the Best Actress category thanks to her brilliant portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in “Monster”. . We talked with the actress, who arrives at the interview with her normal weight and tells that it took her a lot to recover her figure; even, she suffered a depression trying to lose the kilos gained. But she now looks great as usual and very proud to have produced the tape.What surprised you and what did you like about Diablo Cody’s script?

I realized that she managed to tell a familiar story, but in a totally original way. That was what touched me deeply, I felt that it was an honest and true story. I identified with Marlo, my character, from my own experiences as a mother and also from my friends who have children. I felt like it was a fun story, not just for parents, not just for a certain audience, but for anyone. It has a lot of comedy and also hard moments and pain.

Like Marlo, I lose my composure all the time. My mornings are crazy, because Jackson, my eldest son, now leaves on the school bus and is very independent. But that means I have to have both children ready before seven in the morning. Every day my alarm goes off at 5:45, and when it goes off, I want to disappear.

But I love it! I go to bed early, exhausted, and then wake up with my children. That is my current life and it makes me very happy.

I think it happens and it’s society’s fault, which gives us parameters that are impossible to meet. Ideally, the woman has a partner by her side who realizes this tremendous responsibility and helps her. For me, it was a different experience than the character, because I’m single, I didn’t get pregnant or go through postpartum depression.
